Mythic Battles Figures, Zombicide & BadSquiddo Dwarves

Finished up a couple more figures -

First up: Atlanta and the Minotaur from Mythic Battles: Pantheon. I'm...ambivalent with how they turned out.  I could've done a better job but I'm not going back to redo them.  Hearing rumors that Mythic Battles: Ragnarok is coming in June 2020 so better start saving pennies!

Next up - On the left is the dwarf from the main game of Zombicide - Black Plague. Characterful bugger with a unibrow and an annoying mold line I missed on his hand.

On the right is a Badsquiddo Games female dwarf from the recent kickstarter. Once again, enormous fun to paint. Decided to go with a Shaolin Monk inspired paint scheme on her. Love how she turned out!

BadSquiddo Viking Slingers and Footsore Blood Eagle

I haven't been inactive since finishing up the forces for Long Tan at Recruits.  I just haven't had a lot of time and lets be honest, when I don't have a lot of hobby time - I'd rather paint vs blog. The game was relatively well received.  A couple players weren't fans of the card based mechanics but everyone said they had fun.  I was so busy on the day that I didn't get any pictures :(  I'll do better next time, I promise.

On to what I've been working on -

These four viking slingers from BadSquiddo were a BLAST to paint.  Annie hires sculptors that sculpt with "ease of painting" in mind.  I have a lot of Badsquiddo figures still to do, and I'm very much looking forward to doing them.

Next up we have this "Blood Eagle" vignette from Footsore Miniatures.  It will probably be used as either a terrain piece or an objective marker in games of SAGA or maybe Dux Brit.  It's a brutally evocative piece that was somewhat unpleasant to paint, but I firmly believe that one of the reasons we game these periods is to remember the history. History was not clean and proper and we HAVE to remember that to prevent it from happening again.

That's all I have for today. More updates coming soon!

D Coy, 6RAR

I've now finished everything I HAVE to get done figure wise for Lard Summit.

These 76 Aussies bring D Coy up to strength. Mix of Battlefront, Peter Pig, and Flashpoint miniatures.  The best part of all is - I FINISHED 76 figures in ONE (1) day. In betwixt mowing the yard and doing other household chores. Hurrah!

Primed with Army Painter: Army Green Spray primer.

Blocking in done.

After the Ink Wash

After Ink Wash

Finished

Finished

The whole of D Company
In the above picture - Back row is 10 Plt, 11 Plt, and 12 Plt. Front Row is - HQ Plt.

I'm quite pleased with how they turned out.

Now on to the terrain. Spent about an hour today doing table layout and cut out 25 area terrain bases to make a representative Rubber Plantation. Balancing maneuverability of bases of troops with pleasing aesthetic and historical accuracy. I've got a lot to do in the next two weeks. I sure do hope I have enough trees.

Viet Cong D445 Battalion

Progress continues apace for the Recruits Convention in Lee Summit, Missouri at the end of this month, Sept. 27-29.  On the 28th I, along with Jay Arnold of the Veteran Wargamer podcast and some of his mates will be running "Lard Summit"; a Toofatlardies event of all day Lardie games.  My submission will be the aforementioned in other blog updates "Battle of Long Tan".

To that end, my hobby and painting time has been stress-fully trying to get everything done that's needed for the game.  In the last couple days, I've finally finished off a company of the D445 Local Force Battalion for the Viet Cong. Follows is some WIP photos and then at the very end, the finished company.

This was when I was borderline panicking because I had sooo much to do.

Batch painting once you get into the swing of things isn't actually that bad.

A finished Plt. with bases tarted up.

A pic to show the effectiveness of the "bamboo tufts".

Another finished Plt.

My third and final attempt at freehanding a star onto their flag.

The full company, plus sniper team.

Batch painting is not as bad as I originally thought once I got into the swing of things.  Now, I just have 2 Platoons of Australians of D Coy, 6RAR and a Platoon of M113's from A Coy, 6RAR. Oh; and all the terrain. So no big deal. I have 18 days. Better get cracking.

275th Regiment - Peoples Army of North Vietnam

A quick update today as I'm cracking on with prepping for "LARD SUMMIT"; a gathering of Lardie gamers playing Toofatlardies games at the Recruits gaming convention in Lee Summit, MO on the 28th of Sept. 2019.

The game I'm going to be putting on is part of The Battle of Long Tan between the NVA/VC against D Coy, 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment - using "Charlie Don't Surf".

To that end, I've just finished off a Company of NVA regulars of the 275th Regiment -

These figures are from Battlefront and were bloody awful. Tons of flash, odd scaled weapons...just terrible.  If I had it to do over again, I'd buy all Peter Pig. I hope they turned out ok, and the bamboo/underbrush tufts really help I think.

Now to get on with Viet Cong, more Aussies, terrain, supports etc. Till next time!

Survivors & Boardgame Figures

Quick update - On the left: Finished Reaper Chronoscope Zombie Apocalypse Survivor. On the right: "Not Herschel" from Studio Miniatures. Love both of these figures. Super fun to paint up.

Left - Reaper Survivor. Right - Herschel from Studio Miniatures
Next, we have a couple boardgame figures in the continuing saga of trying to be able to play them with painted bits. Mythic Battles: Pantheon goddess Athena, and Zombicide: Black Plague Plague Doctor.

Rather annoyed I missed that mold line on the back of his head.

MOP Campaign Figures

Back with more finished figures. This time, ones for my rapidly expanding plans for The Ministry of the Occult & Paranormal globe spanning campaign.

We'll start off by introducing this lovely figure from Bad Squiddo Games - My Last Sunrise Gothic Horror range .  Female Vampire Huntress and for the purposes of my project - Fraulein Genevieve Von Krakow of the Order of the Jagers.

She was a joy to paint up.  I highly recommend Annie's figures!

Next up we have - Agent Bill Schmidt of the American contingent (Reaper Bones), and Father Gregory Dinklage of the Royal Army (Warlord Games).  Both of whom were A LOT of fun to paint up!

Finally, we have to generic Victorian gents from the "In Her Majesties Name" range from North Star. They are very crisp and easy to paint sculpts.

I'm quite excited to be making progress on this project and it's finally feeling like I may be getting close to being able to kick off the campaign!

FIW Civilians, Zombicide:Black Plague and some Terrain

These were actually finished back in May, but I had a varnishing muckup on a humid day so I got very unmotivated very quickly.  Finally getting around to fixing them and getting them posted.

First up - 4 FIW/AWI 28mm Civilians from Warlord Games.  Painted up easily, decent detail, just a tad on the short side. I personally don't mind that as, "everyone is different" but if you're a scale purist...be warned.

Next we have four Zombicide: Black Plague Survivors. I absolutely love all the minis that CMON has created for all their games and these are no different.  They'll be used for Fantasy or Medieval gaming as well as the boardgame.

Finally, we have some 28mm Jersey Barriers for modern, sci-fi, or post apoc games.  I believe they're from Armorcast.

More Terrain Progress and an Update -

Past couple weeks have been busy with various things, mostly yard/garden work and continuing on with preparation for the TooFatLardies games day at Recruits Gaming Convention. Nothing finished for that as of this writing but I have finished some other stuff detailed below -

First up is a copse of young trees.  One thing of note with trees is that pretty much any size tree will work for 15/20mm but not every size tree will work for 28mm +.

Next we have a couple generic shell craters and a emplacement.  These are OLD vacu-formed plastic from "probably" the late '70s early 80's.  I added bases, basing paste to add texture and then painted and flocked them.  They'll work for any period to be honest. Scale wise I think they'll do for 15mm and 20mm.

Next is an old Micro Machine prepainted German Fokker from WW1.  It scales "ok" for 6mm so I based it up to add to my 6mm WW1 collection.

Here we see four HO scale telegraph poles that will serve for 15mm and 20mm gaming. I have more, but these are the only ones done.

Then we have what I assume is an old HO scale horse barn/stable. No idea where it came from as it was in a grab box of old model railroad stuff I saw at a garage sale for like $0.10 apiece.  Based and Painted it, added a WW2 German Poster and bobs your uncle.

Next up is a 15mm European pig sty.  This is part of the "Russian Village" set from I believe Blotz or Minibits.  Went together super easy and painted up well. Yes the joint points on the roof annoy me but I couldn't be bothered to do something about them. May go back and fix it some day.  The pig is from an unknown manufacturer.

So that's all the painting/modeling done in the last couple weeks.  I received my latest TooFatLardies order of Dice and Blitzkrieg 1940 for Chain of Command. Richard kindly threw in a TFL bottle opener which I must admit has already seen action and may I say, won.

Also had a rummage through my Dads "To Get Rid of Pile" and added a nice selection of books to my collection.  Tons of inspirational history here -

Sadly, I did not get any pictures of the game of Chain of Command played a couple nights ago, but suffice it to say, my Soviets got their asses whipped.

ANZAC's in Vietnam (3)

Four years and two days ago, I posted the 2nd post about ANZAC's in Vietnam in which I had finished a Company Command base and Medic and stated, "My goal is to get the rest of the platoon painted by the end of April." https://historyspiderweb.blogspot.com/2015/04/anzac-in-vietnam-2.html FOUR years ago. HA. Well, I've finished the 1st Platoon finally -

I'm pretty focused on this project now, because in September I will be running a "Charlie Don't Surf" game at the Recruits Gaming Convention in Lee Summit, Missouri. It will be my submission for our "Lard Summit" a collection of gamers running and introducing people to TooFatLardies rules and #spreadthelard spearheaded by Jay Arnold of the Veteran Wargamer Podcast.

Another positive to having this focus is that it means that HOPEFULLY, by September, I will have the components I need finally done and dusted for the beginning of my Tour of Duty campaign I want to do. Basically, following the men of a Company of Australian troops through their tour in Vietnam.  Believe me, there will be many more updates as I work on this project, and they damn well won't be four years from now.

Another item finished for this (and other) project(s) is this M.A.S.H tent.

Note - while the tent cannot be removed from the base, I am that sad bunny that painted the wounded inside.

It started life I believe as a Hospital Tent in a 1970's Airfix 1/72 kit.  I got it from my Dad who bought it in the '70s, and I've had it for almost 20 years languishing in the lead and plastic pile. Well, it scale wise works for 15mm up to 20mm so I painted it up. Personally, I love it.

Stand by for further!
