Various Historicals and Terrain Catch-Up

These various projects have been finished between April and October of 2021.

First up we have 8x Perry Miniatures British Light Infantry. These are plastic and were a bit of a pain to paint if I'm being honest. Detail was a bit shallow in places. I think they turned out ok though. Will be using them for both The French & Indian War and the American War of Independence using Muskets & Tomahawks, Songs of Drums and Tomahawks, and Sharp Practice. With Zeal & Bayonets!

28mm Reaper Campfire. Useful for pretty much any period or genre you could ever think of.

15mm Blue Moon Cabin. Will work for both North America or Eastern Europe. Will be used mostly for Chain of Command and Silver Bayonet.

15mm JR Miniatures Destroyed Factory. Have had this beast for about 8yrs and finally decided to paint it up. Measures approx. 18"x11.5". The chimney is about 5.5" tall. Very useful for my 15mm WW2 games.

6mm Church. The church is actually a re-purposed Thomas Kincaid knicknack. Will be used for my various 6mm projects including ACW and WW1.

A few 20mm soft plastic Afghan Insurgents. I've got a host of rulesets to try for modern Iraq/Afghanistan. More to come in future.

28mm Renedra Early Medieval/Dark Ages building. To be fair could probably be used through the 18th Century if pushed.

28mm Warlord WW2 US Infantry. I will be honestly using these for Horror gaming such as Achtung Cthulhu etc. as my only WW2 in 28mm I have is Pacific theater.

Another 28mm Renedra Early Medieval/Dark Ages building.

28mm Cabbage Patch.

Absolutely gorgeous and fun to paint 28mm Bad Squiddo Female Viking Archers!

20mm or 1/72 ESCI and Airfix US Army Skirmishers for my ACW Sharp Practice project.

28mm Sign Stones.

15mm Dutch Garage.

28mm Wargames Foundry Pirates. Still have a metric shedload of these to do but am kind of doing them in bits and pieces whenever I get the hankering for some swashbuckling painting.

10/15mm Destroyed Bridge. May at some point add water effects.

As you can see, loads of stuff finished and this is only 1 of approx 10 catch up posts I've got in drafts.

BadSquiddo Viking Slingers and Footsore Blood Eagle

I haven't been inactive since finishing up the forces for Long Tan at Recruits.  I just haven't had a lot of time and lets be honest, when I don't have a lot of hobby time - I'd rather paint vs blog. The game was relatively well received.  A couple players weren't fans of the card based mechanics but everyone said they had fun.  I was so busy on the day that I didn't get any pictures :(  I'll do better next time, I promise.

On to what I've been working on -

These four viking slingers from BadSquiddo were a BLAST to paint.  Annie hires sculptors that sculpt with "ease of painting" in mind.  I have a lot of Badsquiddo figures still to do, and I'm very much looking forward to doing them.

Next up we have this "Blood Eagle" vignette from Footsore Miniatures.  It will probably be used as either a terrain piece or an objective marker in games of SAGA or maybe Dux Brit.  It's a brutally evocative piece that was somewhat unpleasant to paint, but I firmly believe that one of the reasons we game these periods is to remember the history. History was not clean and proper and we HAVE to remember that to prevent it from happening again.

That's all I have for today. More updates coming soon!

The Skeleton Signpost

Finally got around to finishing this little terrain project I started about 2 years ago.

The skeleton signpost.  I used an 8 inch round piece of mdf, a whopping big tree from Woodland Scenics, a bunch of cork sheet, and the skeleton on a post from the GW Giant kit.  It'll see use in a myriad of systems, hence why there isn't anything written on the actual sign yet...can't make up my mind as to what it should say.

It was a long term, but fun little project, and I think it will be quite useful.

If you have a suggestion as to what the sign should say, drop me a comment!

I'm Still Here, and with Painted Figures!

Hi everybody! I'm alive and well. Sorry it's been so long since I updated this here blog, have had a lot of stuff going on. Standby for a rather long post.

Around February time, I had to move out of the apartment I was living in, so that started a rather frantic house hunt which led to me buying a 3 bedroom ranch style home, and you better believe it, the 3rd bedroom and most of the basement are devoted to gaming and hobbies!

Then, in March, a fellow firefighter I work with and I decided to start a business together doing remodeling, cabinetry, woodworking etc. and it took off like mad, so I've had VERY little time for hobbying unfortunately. I'm thinking that as winter rolls in, we may slow down a bit, so my wargaming and hobby output should go up a bit.

Also note - there is a 6MMRPC running, started August 1st, and will finish up on January 1st. As you can see haha, I've done terrible with the weekly blog post rule, though I've attempted to stay active in the Conquering the Lead Mountain Facebook page.

But enough nonsense. What have I finally been painting and finishing?!

First up are these two Plague Pits from Gripping Beasts Revenant range. They'll do extremely well as spawn points in most any zombie game and will eventually feature in part of a campaign I'm planning for next year.

Next up are these metal Reaper skeletons. I love these figures, and I'm very happy with how the rust and tarnishing effect came out. These lads will see combat in Frostgrave, SoBH etc.

So this Dark Age/Medieval Batman figure is the first Zombicide: Black Plague figure I've painted. I'm not sure I've done him justice, but I'm definitely looking forward to painting the rest of the figures from the game.

This guy is a Reaper Bones Ogre Champion or Chieftain. I'm happy with how he came out as I sometimes struggle with painting the Bones figures due to the soft detailing.

This bridge is actually part of the terrain set included in the GW Hobbit box set. It's now general terrain and will be used for all manner of game systems ranging from Fantasy and post apocalyptic all the way to Cthulhu games.

Damn errant piece of flock on the explorers hat. These two will see service all over the colonial world as they chase after treasures, mummies, and what not. Not happy with the lady's coat, but I'm calling it done.

And finally - I've been asked a couple times what my recipe is for my flock.
50/50 mix of Alpine Meadow Blend and Summer Lawn Blend with a sprinkle of Dead Fall Forest Debris.

So, a rather decent amount I think.  Not pictured is a Teutonic Mounted Knight that I also finished but forgot to take a picture of.  Happy Gaming, hope you enjoyed the update, and KEEP PAINTING!

Final Vikings for awhile and some terrain bits!

So, today is an off work day, and since I'm not feeling well, I threw some laundry in the wash, started the dishwasher, and settled in to do some hobby stuff.

I finished varnishing and dressing up the bases on the last few Vikings I'm going to do for awhile -

There's all five together.

The sculpt on the left is awesome, the one on the right was massively covered in flash.

The bald dude in the center is the leader of my generic Javelin armed Levy.

I really need to get a camera.  The phone just doesn't do any of these figures justice.  Maybe when the finances permit!

Next up are these terrain bits and pieces.  I've been wanting to get a bunch of terrain done, and where possible I want it to be multi-genre/period, I think I've succeeded with at least a few of these.

This is a model railroad kit I picked up at a thrift store and works decently well scale wise with 28mm figures.  I assembled, and painted it, and I swear it looks way better in person.

Telegraph poles.  I obviously need more space, and a light box.

More tree bases.  I plan on making some area bases for these to fit into at some point.

Not a bad days work, and I'm still cracking on...this is just what I've gotten finished so far.

Dark Age and Change

Well, I've been awfully quiet lately, and I think I've figured out why. It's taken me almost a month to finish these -

Generic javelin armed levy, and these -

Generic sling armed levy. To be honest, while I love dark age gaming and the figures...I'm tired of painting Dark Ages. Basically for the last 5 months, with a slight break for Zombtober, I've been painting dark age figures non stop.

So, it's time for a change. I've cleared my workbench, and am going to be tackling other genres, periods, and scales...starting with some bits and bobs I need to finish off to finally get a game of Across the Dead Earth, and a few things for a try out of Ambush Z from Ambush Alley. Along that train of thought, I painted up this gentleman -

A Reaper Doctor. The final needed miniature to try out the first scenario in Ambush Z. Now, to focus on finishing the 2'x2' terrain board so I can give it a go!

Another update coming soon!
