Warhammer Old World Campaigns (1)

 Beginning:

In days past, when life was just the slightest bit calmer - The Empire attempted to begin colonizing The Southlands.

Thus the city of Sudenburg was founded. Eventually, the province of Antoch, and the Tuskar Plains were added to this colony of man. But, as wars came and the resources of The Empire were stretched thin, humans had to withdraw somewhat. Now, the Tuskar Plains are a lawless, ungoverned place; and Antoch has been abandoned to Araby.

Meanwhile, the Tomb Kings rise and begin to move towards conquest, while the Lizardmen begin probing northwards. Skirmishing has been noted in the Tuskar Plains, and tis only a matter of time before the armies of the Kings and Lizards meet.

We’ll use this as a jumping off/test point for rulesets. Small battles in the Tuskar Plains that at this point don’t have any bearing on the campaign but allow us to narratively explain our rules testing.

We’ll be trying out -

Kings of War

Warmaster

Fantastic Battles

Sword & Spear Fantasy

Warhammer Fantasy Battles

Happy New Year folks!  First post of 2019 and only a little over a week in!

Plan for this post is to layout the myriad of potential projects I would like to work on/make progress on this year.  Also at the very bottom is my first finished figure of 2019!

In no particular order mind,

Wooden Blocks for Iron Men
Boardgame Figures
Bag the Hun

Yeah...it's a lot.  I may have a problem.  The Lead/Plastic Mountain in the closet maaaaaaay prove it...

But no matter, we're gonna make a lot of progress this year, starting with this gal -

Jyn Odan from Imperial Assault.  I am really hoping to get all the minis painted for this game this year, I'm just soooo far behind on expansions.  The detail on Jyn was a little shallow, but I think she turned out ok.  IA figures are rather hit and miss, some are bloody fantastic, others are a bit meh.

Jyn Odan - Smuggler

Anyways, we're off to the races.  Here's to a great year for all of you hobbyists out there!

2019 Finished Figures - 1
2019 Finished Terrain - 0

Goals for 2019

My hobby goals for 2019 -

1.  Paint more figures than in 2018.  So, I have to paint more than 121 figures.

2. Play more miniatures games than in 2018.  So play more than 6 games. This will tie in with another goal further down the list.

3. Complete two opposing forces for any period/genre.

4. Kickoff my Gothic Horror/Steampunk campaign.

5. Start a games club.  We have the interest and the name already, just got to get organized about it.

6. Concentrate on smaller scales.  I have a ton of 2mm-20mm projects and I'm going to strive to focus on them this year.

7. Complete a metric shed load of terrain.  At LEAST double 2018's 6 pieces.  So goal of 12 pieces.

8. Finish my core platoon of German infantry for Chain of Command in 15mm.

9. Support small business.  The likes of Bad Squiddo, Forged in Battle, Peter Pig, Irregular, Baccus etc.

10. Play every boardgame and miniatures ruleset in my collection.  That's going to take a lot of work, but should be a fun endeavor!

Anyways, those are the goals.  First post of 2019 will probably be my 13 pages of project plans!

Happy New Year folks!!!

First Post of 2018 - Planning

Whew. It's been awhile.  I've been ridiculously busy over the last 8 months with the business, life, full time job etc, but am now getting to the point where I can make time for hobby time.

So going forward -
I have a game of Kill Team coming up next week, so I'm trying to get a Tau Fire Team put together for it. Finished assembly last night and will be priming and starting to paint them tomorrow.

My paint desk is covered at the moment with other painting projects for this year -

Guildball Farmers, Fishermen, Morticians, and Union teams.

Board-Game Figures from Zombicide: Black Plague, Shadows of Brimstone, and Mythic Battles: Pantheon.

A whole host of Gothic horror figures and monsters for a pet project of mine (more to come soon).

I've started another 6 Month Mountain Reduction and Painting Challenge, so minimal to no purchases and hopefully lots of finished figures and terrain pieces.

Also planning on playing way more games this year.

So, that's the quick update.  More posts coming soon.  Hoping to get reviews, battle reports, and progress updates.  Thanks for reading.

Forward Planning

Well...my 3MMRPC has been rubbish.  I've lacked motivation on the painting front due to a lot of stuff going on in my personal life, and am only now getting back into the swing of things with about 5 days left to go...

2/3 of my Lead/Plastic Mountain - tisn't shrinking much.

So, I sat down in one of the brief downtime periods at work last week, to do some planning.  I now have a regular gaming buddy who will play any game, but will only collect and paint Fantasy and Sci-Fi figures so if I want to play historical games, I'll still have to paint both forces.

That being said, I now have extra motivation to get things done as we both want to play more often.  I have a horrible habit of starting a project, and then getting distracted by something else and then not finishing anything.  So I made a list of current on the go projects and prioritized them -

1. Guildball - My game of the year for 2016.

2. Warhammer 30k/40k - yes, I've gotten sucked into this bloody money pit.  That being said, we're still not 100% sure we're going to be using the 40k rules(gasp).  Looking at several rules options and just carting along the fluff which is - lets be honest - pretty fecking cool.

3. Chain of Command - 15mm Germans, Soviets, and Americans. Really keen to get this going as my Dad is a huge WW2 buff and is looking forward to it.  Already have the Soviet infantry platoon finished.

4. Post Apocalyptic - 28mm using either Across the Dead Earth or This Is Not A Test or both.

5. Zombie Apocalypse - 28mm campaign which I already have loads of figures painted for, but lets again be honest...you can never have enough zombies.

6. Muskets & Tomahawks - This is also a major interest of my Dad and we've enjoyed the few games we've played with half painted or unpainted figures. Planning on using it for both FIW and AWI.

7. 6mm American Civil War - This project was on hold for the longest time due to me not having found a ruleset that I liked...I then heard a review of "Alter of Freedom" on Meeples and Miniatures and bought a pdf copy and yep, they were exactly what I was looking for...now to just paint the two thousand 6mm figures I have.

8. Dystopian Wars - FSA Fleet.

9. Halo Fleet Battles.

10. Dead Man's Hand - I have one posse already painted, if I can get the 2nd one done we can finally get a game in!

11. SAGA/Dux Brit - I have fully painted 6pt forces for SAGA Vikings and Anglo-Danes, but have Welsh to get done, and am looking to add the forces needed to start running a Dux Brit campaign.

12. The Northern Crusades - Lion Rampant.

13. Ministry of the Occult and Paranormal (MOP) Project

14. 28mm Pirates - I got back from my deployment and for some weird reason I wanted to paint pirates...ordered something like 60+ from Foundry and haven't painted a damn one.

15. Frostgrave/Mordheim - have a painted sigilist warband and am playing around with some ideas for a narrative campaign.

16. 1/72 Ancients - Using "Sword & Spear" I have forces for the Punic Wars and the Roman Conquest of Britain and Gaul.

17. Charlie Don't Surf - 15mm Aussies and NVA/VC.

18. Game of Thrones - 28mm using Dragon Rampant.

19. The HUGE amount of boardgame figures that will be used for many many things.

The plan is to take the list and go down it working on one segment of a project at a time, in order from top to bottom and maybe actually FINISH something.  My next post will be the start of just that with content about Guildball.  Speaking of which -

A pic of a match I played 2 days ago.  My half painted Butchers vs Brewers.

Stand by for more updates SOON!

Happy New Year! - A short review, and Goals for 2015 -

Happy New Year everyone! A bit belated, but I was exhausted New Years Eve and worked New Years Day. So.

I want to start this off with a few comparisons betwixt 2013 and 2014 -

2013 saw a total of 16 Figures finished.
2014 saw a total of 135 Figures finished!

2013 saw a total of 0 Terrain Pieces finished.
2014 saw a total of 6 Terrain Pieces finished!

2013 I posted 9 blog updates.
2014 I posted 41 blog updates!

Positive progress all around!

Now a few thoughts.  I didn't really post a "Beginning of year goals" post in January 2014, but I did have some goals in mind, and I'm glad to say, I met almost all of them.

1. I told myself I would actually game more in 2014 - Accomplished.  I formed a small games club that I'm calling "The Crossed Tomahawks" Gaming Club.  We meet AT LEAST once a month, but have been aiming for, and for the most part succeeding in gaming at least twice a month.

2. Paint More Figures - As seen by the numbers above, I feel I crushed this goal!

3. Finish at least one base army - Accomplished.  The basic starter set of Anglo-Danes for SAGA is complete and have even seen combat...annnnnd were soundly trounced by some half painted Vikings.

4. Visit a wargames show - Failed.  I didn't make it to Historicon.

5. Take part in a painting challenge - Accomplished! Sort of. Haha. When I first made this goal, I was going to jump in on the BIG painting challenge thats currently running...I instead, joining with some other intrepid souls decided to NOT buy figures and instead try to reduce my "Lead Mountain" by painting as much as I could in six months.  We're 4 months in and going strong!

Now, to the goals for 2015 -

1. Take all the numbers from 2013/14, both blog entries posted and minis/terrain pieces finished, and completely smash those records.

2.  MORE MINIATURES GAMES!

3. Piggybacking off of #2 - Several ideas and plans for some campaigns shall come to fruition this year, and will be blogged about in AAR/Story format.

Ya'll have seen my project list...those are all still there, I'm just not going to bore you with it again.  I do have a feeling that there will be more projects added to the list though.

I seriously feel very grateful for the amount of encouragement I've gotten from y'all, and I hope you've enjoyed my seriously meandering in this hobby of ours.  Now, lets get this year going!

Current Projects...he's insane folks.

Ok, so roughly 20 folks give or take started this Mountain Reduction and Painting Challenge back on September 1st...I, and most others had some sort of plan as to how we were going to proceed. Well, I'm here to tell ya dear readers that my "plan" has gone completely out the bloody window. Sort of.

Everything that was on the plan is still there. The major muck up in the plan is that now...all the components (or parts/units/armies thereof) are now sat firmly ON my workbench. I severely suffer from painting boredom i.e. Painting the same thing night after night, and my mind has adjusted to where I'll work on something till I'm bored, then move to a different period, genre, unit, army, terrain piece etc. It may sound insane but it works for me.

So here is the list of current projects in the works -

Dark Ages - Rulesets: SAGA and Dux Brit. Armies - Anglo Danes, Vikings, Welsh, Romano-British, Picts, Saxons and Anglo-Saxons. (Side note - my girlfriend is in the process of building a strathclyde welsh force). Most of that is 28mm, but I do have several packs of 15mm that I'm still trying to decide what I want to use them for.

Sword & Spear - Imperial Romans, Celts, Republican Romans, and Carthaginians. All in 20mm Plastics.

Muskets & Tomahawks - French, British, Indian, and Colonial Militia. All 28mm.

ACW - Rulesets: Either Polemus or Black Powder. Haven't decided yet. This is all 6mm and its both Union and Confederate...roughly 2200 6mm figures...did I mention I'm crazy?

Chain of Command - two bloody scales. 20mm ANZAC's and Japanese, and 28mm Germans, Finnish, Soviets, and Polish. Also playing with a Partisan force for use against either the Germans or the Soviets.

I Ain't Been Shot Mum - 15mm German and Soviets. (Side note - My brother is currently building Americans.)

Arab-Israeli Wars - GHQ MicroArmor. Don't have a ruleset as of yet. Suggestions?

ACW 2.0 Moderns - Rulesets: Force on Force and/or Flying Lead. Government, Rebel, and Foreign Interventionist Forces. 20mm plastics with potential for some skirmishes in 28mm.

Space Hulk - All the figures from the game set.

Post-Apoc/Zombie-Apoc - Rulesets: Across the Dead Earth, Ambush Z, Flying Lead, Songs of Fear and Faith. All 28mm.

Good God...I may need an intervention. On a positive note, since the challenge started 2.5 Months ago, I've completed damn near 60 figures...that's more than I'd completed in 3 years combined.
