BadSquiddo Viking Slingers and Footsore Blood Eagle

I haven't been inactive since finishing up the forces for Long Tan at Recruits.  I just haven't had a lot of time and lets be honest, when I don't have a lot of hobby time - I'd rather paint vs blog. The game was relatively well received.  A couple players weren't fans of the card based mechanics but everyone said they had fun.  I was so busy on the day that I didn't get any pictures :(  I'll do better next time, I promise.

On to what I've been working on -

These four viking slingers from BadSquiddo were a BLAST to paint.  Annie hires sculptors that sculpt with "ease of painting" in mind.  I have a lot of Badsquiddo figures still to do, and I'm very much looking forward to doing them.

Next up we have this "Blood Eagle" vignette from Footsore Miniatures.  It will probably be used as either a terrain piece or an objective marker in games of SAGA or maybe Dux Brit.  It's a brutally evocative piece that was somewhat unpleasant to paint, but I firmly believe that one of the reasons we game these periods is to remember the history. History was not clean and proper and we HAVE to remember that to prevent it from happening again.

That's all I have for today. More updates coming soon!

Terrain Progress

Quick update as I'm knee deep in work and trying to get stuff painted!

I've been focusing on terrain the last week, and while I have only finished two pieces; I've made a ton of progress with assembly, planning, painting etc.

First up we have a lovely resin 15mm Russian Workshop from Novus Design Studio Novus Design Studio. Didn't need any cleanup other than a quick wash to get the release agent off. Painted up very well and QUICK.

Next up, a quickly assembled campsite.  I plan on using these in my SAGA/Dux Brit games.  28mm Renedra Tents on a MDF base that I cut down in the workshop.

That's all I've got for right now. Stay tuned for some interesting/exciting news coming soon!

A Few SAGA pics

Introduced a friend of mine to SAGA the other day, didn't take many pictures and this is no official battle report or AAR but figured I'd share -

My Vikings making a run for the ford...they didn't make it before the dastardly Anglo-Danes blocked it.

My worthy opponent got the rules very quickly.

Right before Mr. T snatched a victory out of the mouth of defeat. I smelled blood in the water, went for the kill with my warlord and had the shittiest dice rolling ever, and lost as my warlord died.

For those interested, my gaming mat is a 6'x4' Grassland w/roads mat from http://cigarboxbattlestore.bigcartel.com they are fantastic products, highly recommended.

Final Vikings for awhile and some terrain bits!

So, today is an off work day, and since I'm not feeling well, I threw some laundry in the wash, started the dishwasher, and settled in to do some hobby stuff.

I finished varnishing and dressing up the bases on the last few Vikings I'm going to do for awhile -

There's all five together.

The sculpt on the left is awesome, the one on the right was massively covered in flash.

The bald dude in the center is the leader of my generic Javelin armed Levy.

I really need to get a camera.  The phone just doesn't do any of these figures justice.  Maybe when the finances permit!

Next up are these terrain bits and pieces.  I've been wanting to get a bunch of terrain done, and where possible I want it to be multi-genre/period, I think I've succeeded with at least a few of these.

This is a model railroad kit I picked up at a thrift store and works decently well scale wise with 28mm figures.  I assembled, and painted it, and I swear it looks way better in person.

Telegraph poles.  I obviously need more space, and a light box.

More tree bases.  I plan on making some area bases for these to fit into at some point.

Not a bad days work, and I'm still cracking on...this is just what I've gotten finished so far.

Dark Age and Change

Well, I've been awfully quiet lately, and I think I've figured out why. It's taken me almost a month to finish these -

Generic javelin armed levy, and these -

Generic sling armed levy. To be honest, while I love dark age gaming and the figures...I'm tired of painting Dark Ages. Basically for the last 5 months, with a slight break for Zombtober, I've been painting dark age figures non stop.

So, it's time for a change. I've cleared my workbench, and am going to be tackling other genres, periods, and scales...starting with some bits and bobs I need to finish off to finally get a game of Across the Dead Earth, and a few things for a try out of Ambush Z from Ambush Alley. Along that train of thought, I painted up this gentleman -

A Reaper Doctor. The final needed miniature to try out the first scenario in Ambush Z. Now, to focus on finishing the 2'x2' terrain board so I can give it a go!

Another update coming soon!

Starting the Year off Right!

I'll admit, most of these were started in some way shape or form in 2014. But as I do not count a figure finished til it's painted, based, varnished, and had the bases dressed up a bit...all these are going into the 2015 stats.

So, what do we have:

Continuing on with the Dark Ages, we'll start with some Norsemen -

Gripping Beast metal figures, the imposing gent on the left is probably one of my favorite figures in my collection at the moment.

Here's a couple of Viking warriors. Does anybody else hate mitten hand as much as I? I'll eventually attempt to sculpt some fingers on both these guys.

A couple of slingers and a Hearthguard warrior.

Command stand for either Anglo-Danes, Anglo-Saxons, or Romano-British.

And last but not least, a kit bash figure -

An Anglo-Saxon Zombie!

Levy Incoming

Been chipping away at my dark age forces...I've got a large hill of unpainted dark age stuff.  So here's some Levy I've finished up over the last 4 days.

First up, some kit bashed GB Plastics -

The nice thing about these is that they're generic. I could use them for pretty much any army of the dark ages.

And I also finished up the Pict Slingers!

I love the energy in these sculpts!  Loads of character and a lot of fun to paint!  Side note - That's a whole blister finished.  Oh boy...actually finishing stuff?!

Dark Age Archers - West Wind

So continuing on with my Dark Ages project as well as Zombtober, I've finished up these West Wind Archers.

Absolutely lovely sculpting. They didn't require any cleanup, and took paint wonderfully. I've got several packs of West Wind figures from different periods, and they're all lovely!

6MMRPC - More Finished Vikings and Civilians

Finished these Viking Warriors from Gripping Beast.  They required a bit of cleanup but were loaded with detail.

Also finished up these Pictish Slingers.  I believe they're from Black Tree. Loads of character and required minimal cleanup. Beautiful sculpts!

These Dark Age Hogs (Can't remember what manufacturer) and the GB Shepherds to mind 'em. Oh and the Reaper woman...who I'm not really sure if she'll work for dark ages or not.

And last but not least, a Romano-British Champion!

Slowly but surely making headway into my Dark Age backlog...though these bloody zombies are slowing it down!
